Calling all aspiring fashion designers! Want the opportunity to design an outfit and see it come to life?
The Graduate Fashion Foundation is excited to announce the YOUNG TALENT OF TOMORROW FASHION DESIGN COMPETITION 2024. Create the outfit of your dreams, showcasing all your creativity and fashion design skills for the chance to attend Graduate Fashion Week 2024 and see your design become a reality. We challenge you to design an entire outfit based on the theme below, then tell us all about your chosen subject, inspirations and design choices on your research page.
Who Can Apply?
Open to UK-based students studying textiles, art or relevant design technology subjects between the ages of 11 - 18.
Age Categories: Year 7 - 9 | Year 10 - 11 | Year 12 - 13 or College
The Brief:
All About Identity: Your identity is what makes you unique. Design an outfit that celebrates your identity, demonstrating how you have translated these elements of yourself into a fashion creation by fusing design ideas with self-reflection. You might choose to explore your heritage, religion or nationality. Maybe you’re inspired by your physical or online community. Perhaps you want to showcase an identity that you’ve created for yourself. Express your identity through your choice of materials, colours, prints, shapes and textures. This is your time to get creative!
The Work:
Submit a two-page competition entry. It must include one research page and one page showcasing three fully designed outfits. These outfits can be three separate looks around different areas of your identity or a cohesive collection.
ONE research page should showcase:
Your identity and how that inspired your designs
Reference images
Colour palettes, patterns and fabric swatches
100 - 200 words explaining your research into your identity
ONE design page should include:
Three fully designed outfits for any gender
Make it as colourful and detailed as you want, with labels and notes
Fabric and /or texture samples
100 - 200 words to explain your outfit elements and details
Prize Per Age Category: Year 7 - 9 | Year 10 - 11 | Year 12 - 13 or College
1st Prize: Your winning design will be professionally made and showcased at Graduate Fashion Week 24. On Thursday 13th June, you will be presented with your trophy, a fashion starter pack, plus tickets for you, your teacher and your family to attend GFW24 to watch the show. Your design will also be on display throughout the four-day event in London.
2nd Place Runner-Up Prize: Your design illustrations will be professionally printed and displayed at Graduate Fashion Week in London. You’ll also receive a goodie bag and framed print of your work, plus tickets for you, your teacher and your family to attend GFW24 to watch a catwalk show on Thursday 13th June, where your work will be digitally showcased.
3rd Place Runner-Up Prize: Your design illustrations will be professionally printed and displayed at Graduate Fashion Week in London. You’ll also receive a framed print of your work, plus tickets for you, your teacher and your family to attend GFW24 to watch a catwalk show on Thursday 13th June, where your work will be digitally showcased.
Submission Deadline:
Teachers must submit all entries by Friday 15th March 2024 at 12 pm. Submissions must include both the research and design page, labelled with the student’s name. Entries submitted after this time will not be considered.
Winners will be announced Friday 22nd March 2024.
