EDINBURGH COLLEGE OF ART

 

Edinburgh College of Art celebrate Lauren Smiths achievement as the winner of the George Gold Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2013.

The collection, which was all about the imagination, showed a unique personality - of which judge Rouland Mouret was drawn to. He spoke of the work; "When we saw Lauren's pieces and then met her in person it was clear that her collection as a whole was an extension of herself, which I think is important."

Lauren was awarded the prize of £20,000 alongside her George Gold Award.

UNIVERSITY FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS EPSOM

 

Hannah Williams, from UCA Epsom, enjoyed her second win of the week with the Womenswear Award presentation.

After already scooping up the Fashion Innovation Award earlier in the week, the panel where drawn to Hannah's exceptionally exciting hand-cast silicone collection. The panel of judges included influential names Todd Lynn, Holli Rogers of Net A Porter and Cathy Edwards of Dazed and Confused.

Hannah is planning to continue to develop her technique, potentially at MA level.

MENSWEAR AWARD-SHAUNI DOUGLAS & OLIVIA CREBER

EDINBURGH COLLEGE OF ART

 

Edinburgh students Shauni Douglas and Olivia Creber won the GFW 2013 Menswear Award with their collaboaration of mens clothing and accessories.

Douglas's collection, inspired by urban horse-riders of inner-city Philadelphia is accentuated by Crebers beard jewellery. A panel made up of David Gandy, James Long, Ed Burstell and Adam Cameron made the decision, with Gandy saying; "From concept to catwalk the quality and finish of this collection was of an exceptionally high standard. Shauni and Olivia demonstrated an ability to play with proportion which is most unusual for BA graduates This collection showed a really strong visual concept and superb craftsmanship our vote was unanimous!”

Olivia is starting a MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery in September.

ZANDRA RHODES TEXTILES AWARD-KIRANDEEP BASSAN

NORTHAMPTON UNIVERSITY

 

The winner of the prestigous Zandra Rhodes Textiles Award, Kirandeep Bassan from Northampton University.

Chosen by Zandra Rhodes herself, along with a judging panel including Kate Bostock and Holly Fulton. Kirandeeps stand out prints are inspired by peeling paints and rusting metals in a palette of burnt orange and blue.

Excited to win the award Kirandeep says; "Its so amazing that I won the Textiles award, its amazing to be recognised for my print skills, especially be awarded by Zandra."

Kirandeep has already gone on to start an Internship at Zandra Rhodes alongside being shortlisted for Grazia's Fash Factor Competition, before starting a Masters in Print in September. Look out for her collection in Grazia later this year.

STUART PETERS VISIONARY KNITWEAR AWARD-THEA SANDERS

NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY

 

Nottingham Trent University student Thea Sanders won the Stuart Peters Visionary Knitwear Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2013.

Thea studied Fashion Design and Knitted Textiles at Nottingham Trent and created a collection inspired by the patterns of floor tiles. Incorporating domestic knitting and also weaving into her collection to create a range of brightly coloured vibrant garments.

Erica Peters, who presented the award, commented on how Thea's collection was "innovative and conceptual, without negating commerciality".

RAVENSBOURNE

 

Anne-Lina Dingsor-Uudelepp from Ravensbourne scooped up the David Band Textile Award. 

Her pieces are inspired by the London Riots and where chosen for the award by fashion socialite Daniel Lismore and Jenny from the VIctoria and Albert Museum.

MANCHESTER SCHOOL OF ART

 

Manchester School of Art graduate Amy Davidson is the proud winner of the Mulberry Accessories Award.

The award, chosen by a panel of judges from Mulberry was presented at The Space during Graduate Fashion Week 2013. Amy was chosen by Mulberry who where impressed by the intricacy of her work; "incredible attention to detail and a beautifully considered use of material".

Amy plans to continue to study by attending the RCA from september to complete an MA in Accessories.

UWE BRISTOL

 

The Fashion Photography Award is new to Graduate Fashion Week this year, and the very first winner is Dean Stephen Davis from UWE Bristol.

Deans work was a response to social and political issues that are at the heart of contemporary culture. The unique thing about Dean is he not only takes the photographs but also designs and makes his garments as well.

Dean plans to go on to study an MA in Fashion Design before launching his own Fashion & Arts Magazine/Website.

The Karen Millen Portfolio Award went to Emma De Vries of Ravensbourne.

She also won a one year internship at Karen Millen alongside the award for her impressive portfolio.

UNIVERSITY FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS

 

Alongside her Womenswear Award win Hannah Williams also picked up the Fashion Innovation Award.

Cathy Edwards from Dazed and Confused explains why Hannah won the womenswear award; "We thought that Hannah’s collection was extremely original, very photogenic, modern and innovative using great new techniques in fabric innovation which can be seen through accessories and shoes".

Rebecca Chambers from Ravensbourne won the Media and Design Award for her innovative magazine. 

Aimed at young teens, the magazine fills a gap in the market for people looking for a publication that addresses alternative design.

Rebecca, who has previously interned at fashion houses such as Moschino and Eley Kishimoto believes that Graduate Fashion Week is a "great way to showcase work".

The winner of the Per Aquum Marketing Award was Sophie Christiansen from Ravensbourne University. 

Sophie, who studies Fashion Promotion, designed an innovative marketing campaign which caught the Per Aquum judges attention. Gaining work experience while studying Sophie has worked and written freelance for The Lady magazine alongside interning at advertising agency Ogilvy.

Sophie has already secured a place as a Graduate Account Managet at advertising firm JWT.

SHIH CHIEN UNIVERSITY

 

Angus Chiang, from Shih Chien University, wowed the judges and won the International Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2013.

The panel, made up of Italian Vogue's Sara Maino, Gitte Jonsdar of Muuse, fashion blogger Susie Lau and RCA professor Wendy Dagworthy made a unanimous decision on Angus Chaing's futuristic, psychedelic spaceman designs.

Angus's collection was chosen to win from a showcase of 16 of the best universities from around the world.

Northumbria University student, Rosie Dobby won the Ethical Award for her 'brand new subset of sportswear'.

The award was judged by Pants to Poverty owner Ben Ramsden. Excited by Rosie's work he said; "It's great to see a fresh vibrant perspective on ethical fashion".

NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY

 

Congratulations to Nottingham Trent University who won the Stand Design Award at Graduate Fashion Week 2013. The inspiration behind their stand was the concept of Studio, continuing with the Graduate Fashion Week 'Atelier'. The concept allowed students to display their garments and portfolios with the full attention on these, allowing the drama of the cutting and well finished garments to shine through. 

The judges where engaged by their slick mannequin displays and praised their friendly inviting approach to stand design which showcased the students work perfectly. On the panel was Melissa Odabash who commented on the "great visual impact".

MUUSE INTERNATIONAL WOMENSWEAR PRIZE-SAHSA NASSAR

ISTITUTO MARANGONI PARIS

 

Sasha Nassar, from Istituto Marangoni Paris was chosen from 16 of the best International Universities to win the MUUSE International Womenswear prize.

Now, in collaboration with MUUSE Sasha will create a collection to be showcased at London and Paris Fashion Week's for SS14. 

Sasha, who was born in Jaffa Israel, captivated the Judges with her 'personal spring' collection. Representing a journey through an investigation of contemporary cultural conflicts that Sasha played with vieling and unvieling.
