The Boys by Girls Styling and Photography Competition gave two students, one stylist and one photographer, the opportunity to work with Cecilie Harris, Editor-in-Chief of Boys by Girls, on a shoot to be published on the female gaze focused magazine! We're pleased to say that the imagery produced on this photoshoot, has now been released! Check out the appealing and beautiful images below, or over on the Boys by Girls website.

Victoria Koydl of Ravensbourne University, was the winner of the photography element of the competition, working with stylist winner, Su Shan Leong from University of Leeds under the knowledgable direction of Cecilie. Curating the shoot from graduate collections and taking place in The Truman Brewery, the day was a demonstration of the power of collaboration. Hair and make up was created by Molly King and Justine Whitehouse of Solent University, complimenting both the voice and brand ethos of Boys by Girls and expressing their personal styles.

Boys by Girls is a bi-annual print publication with a fast growing digital presence, where the beauty of the contemporary young man is explored through the female lens. Launched in 2011 by Menswear Photographer Cecilie Harris, Boys by Girls strikes a balance between fashion, art and documentary resulting in honest and beautiful photography.

"AS A MAGAZINE BOYS BY GIRLS IS VERY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO BE A PLATFORM FOR VERY ESTABLISHED PHOTOGRAPHERS BUT AS WELL BRINGING UP NEW TALENT, ESPECIALLY LOOKING AT THE FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHERS IN THE LANDSCAPE OF ALL THE FEMALE PHOTOGRAPHERS.

TO WORK WITH AND BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITH TOP AGENCIES AND ALSO KEEP AN EYE OUT ON WHO'S GOING TO BE THE NEXT GENERATION, COME AND DO AMAZING THINGS IN THE INDUSTRY. I ALWAYS GO TO THE GRADUATE FASHION WEEK PHOTOGRAPHY SHOWS AND SEE WHAT THE NEW TALENT IS COMING OUT"

Cecilie Harris, Editor-in-Chief, Boys by Girls

Photography assistant, Antonia Antonio from Ravensbourne, and stylist assistant Caitlin Anderson, University of Leeds rounded out the team. The day was both a learning experience for the graduates and an opportunity to gain experience on working with an established Editor.

"IT’S EXCITING TO SEE GRADUATES COMING OUT WITH NEW IDEAS TO BRING TO THE TABLE. BOYS BY GIRLS FOCUSES ON THE WORLD OF THE YOUNG CONTEMPORARY MALE, [GRADUATES] REALLY UNDERSTAND THAT WELL.

I’M EXCITED TO SEE BEAUTIFUL PICTURES, A PHOTOGRAPHER THAT UNDERSTANDS HOW TO TELL A STORY, HOW TO CONCEPTUALISE THAT, HOW TO WORK WITH A BRAND. AT BOYS BY GIRLS WE LOOK FOR WHO UNDERSTANDS WHO WE ARE. HOW DOES THAT MATCH WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARTIST. SO I’D BE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH A SIMILAR TONE OF VOICE AND TELLS SIMILAR STORIES. VICTORIA TODAY IS DOING A GREAT JOB, STORYTELLING WITH IN THE VOICE OF BOYS BY GIRLS AND MERGING THAT INTO THE WAY THEY TELL STORIES."
