‘Sculpture’, ‘sustainability’ and ‘organic’ are the words that come to mind whilst watching Holly Cunningham’s AW20 collection. She opened the show for Edinburgh College of Art. The stunning collection incorporated organic fabrics with strings upon strings, and set the tone for a surreal collection of projects.
Themes of empowerment ran throughout Dominic Walsh’s collection on phantasmagoria , tactility and sustainability. This included a giant suit with a mix-match of materials that dominated the collection.
Corruption VS innocence inspired Alejandra Herrera’s SS20 collection. Alejandra experimented with old delicate linen fabrics and straw hats, with androgynous modern shapes; and cut up Victorian style dresses with corsets cutting out the bustier.
There was humour at Ellie Thomson’s SS20 collection. Models walked the catwalk grinning and laughing whilst playing a 1960’s dance music. The collection reused strong plastic that you’d have originally found in a tent.
Alexandra Fan closed the show with her ‘technocraft’. Thick, latex, durable fabric gave an unusual effect when in motion, vibrations ran through the fabric with each step the models took. Made for AW20, the collection was an array of superhuman shoulders, finished off with geometric patterns.
