Leopard: Fashion’s Most Powerful Print, published by Laurence King in October 2018, is the definitive collection of all things leopard as told by award winning journalist and GFW trustee Hilary Alexander OBE. Leopard examines the enduring appeal of fashion’s most perennial print, as Hilary explores the meaning behind the vibrant patterns in her first ever book.

“Why do we love to wear leopard-print? So we can feel closer to something that is breathtakingly beautiful, graceful and precious... and just a little bit dangerous.”

Donatella Versace

Hilary Alexander OBE is a New Zealand- born British fashion journalist, who was twice named Journalist of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Formerly the fashion director of the Daily Telegraph, she is currently editor-at-large for Hello Fashion Monthly and is a celebrated Industry Trustee here at Graduate Fashion Week.

“I feel empowered when I wear leopard-print, which comes as no surprise when you consider that female leopards are the hunters of their pride!”

Claudia Schiffer

From the catwalk to covers, Dior to Versace, rock stars to First Ladies, this book explores the most iconic and arresting images of leopard print throughout fashion’s history, from the Stone Age to the Digital Age.

Featuring musings and quotes from the leaders of the industry including Donatella Versace, Diane von Furstenberg and Claudia Schiffer, Leopard is a valuable resource for designers and stylists and a must-have book for fashion and leopard print aficionados. As colour and print become the corner stone of self expression in an industry when everyone’s wondering what’s the new black each season, we’re pleased to see a celebration of maximalism appear on the market.

Despite the interest in real animal skins has decreased rapidly over the past twenty years, animal prints from snake to tiger remain prominent. And of course the original of these prints, has always been and will remain, Leopard.

“Fake is fashion’s best weapon - and leopard its finest example.”

Hilary Alexander OBE
