On Wednesday the 17th January, GFW Alumni and winner of the Tu Womenswear scholarship 2017, Laura Gillings, visited the Tu clothing studio to introduce her stunning collection. The collection presents garments featuring Laura’s hand drawn prints, striped garments designed with ruffles to display a disorganised effect and statement slogans.
Laura’s empowering slogan bags include the phrase ‘I know what I am’. Laura explains that this represents females in todays society, and her aim is to empower women to feel confident in themselves. The collection portrays an elegant colour palette of complimentary tones including black, white, red, green and purple.
Alongside winning the Tu Womenswear scholarship, Laura was offered a place in GFW’s mentoring scheme which allows her to have regular meetings and receive advice from industry professional Henry Holland.
Henry Holland, designer and founder of his brand House of Holland has recently showcased his debut collaboration with Ben Sherman at LFWM this January. Henry began his astounding fashion journey over 10 years ago, releasing his famous 80’s style slogan tees such as I'LL SHOW YOU WHO'S BOSS KATE MOSS’ and ‘GET YER FREAK ON GILES DEACON’. Now Henry is an international superstar and a valued GFW supporter, who’s incomparable experience is priceless for our graduates wanting to embark in their dream careers in the demanding fashion industry.
