Closing the second day of GFW 19 was Ravensbourne. Their award winning fashion course has an international reputation. Their catwalk show consisted of a multitude of inspirational collections, which covered everything from bridal lace, to water rafts.
The show began with the glitz and glamour of Abi Holden. The classical music ran alongside the movement of the thick, silk pieces. Her pieces featured large collars and structured shoulders. Floral prints covered a few pieces in blues, yellows and reds.
Keeping up the glam was Brenda Fang Kuoh, with a bombardment of embellishment and glistening pearls. Models wore mesh face masks. The mesh theme continued throughout the collection, giving a tone of mask controversy with a twist of 1960’s swing.
Alice Phillips’ collection gave us 1990’s Ann Demeulemeester’s simple workwear staples, with a white, uneven, hemmed, collarless shirt under a black knit. Each model wore oversized earrings and oversized tailoring was popular throughout.
Clare Woodward’s modern take on bridal veils added elegancy to typically androgynous styles and bold prints. There was an underwater theme to her collection. Models wore large goldfish earrings and carried clear plastic bags, full of water and fake goldfish.
Like Clare’s collection, underwater inspiration was present in other collections. Lauren Ibbs’ garments were made from rafts and water proof materials. The avant garde shapes manipulated the natural shape of the human body. All models had wet look hairstyles, these promoted sleek, underwater, power dressing. Details included jewels hanging from the model’s mouths, and diving masks covered in metal hoops.
