The latest collection by sculptural Womenswear designer, and GFW alumni, Sadie Clayton, took centre stage at the British Ambassador’s residence in Rome earlier this year, before coming to London Fashion Week. Her international career is just beginning, as Clayton is taking the fashion capitals by storm. Italy’s Haute Couture Fashion Week, held its first major catwalk, seeing the creative Clayton showcase her designs, representing the Britain is Great Campaign.

“My graduate collection was really when I could do what I wanted and show the world what I’m made of”

Clayton is originally from Mirfield, West Yorkshire and has stated that she is proud to be British. She tells of how growing up in a smaller village and being mixed race made her stand out. Sadie talks about how she embraced her difference and recognised the beauty of her own diversity.  Most recently showcasing at London Fashion Week, bringing her 2018 Autumn Winter collection to us, it is clear that she is producing garments that are unique and true to herself.

Clayton joined Fashion Scout, in a pop-up exhibition in February 2015, following being named as a runner-up in the Graduate Fashion Week showcase’s award for innovation.

Graduating in 2013 from Kingston University, Clayton was known as ‘Copper Girl’ and wanted to add the notion of power and femininity to her designs. Since graduating she has still been using copper within her designs. Clayton has appeared on the influential Not Just A Label and has showcased alongside the brightest UK and International graduates and emerging designers. Known for holding diversity at the centre of her work using models of varying sizes, physical abilities and ethnic backgrounds to wear her collection. We are glad to be following Clayton on her fashion journey and we can’t wait to see where she will be travelling to next.
