Hilary Alexander OBE In Conversation With: Amy Powney from Mother Of Pearl

Amy Powney, creative director of contemporary label Mother of Pearl, sat down with Hilary Alexander OBE to chat about her time at the label, and her childhood. Growing up without running water or electricity, Powney has always been interested in the way things work — particularly fashion.

She has a strict routing when sourcing her materials; researching which countries provide the most sustainable fabrics - India and Turkey for cotton, for example, - and relying on TENCEL, a sustainable fibre source, are very important to her.

Catwalk 2 Creation Part 2 Screening & Q&A

Featuring Charney Magri, Partner at Do Epic Good, & Andrew Ibi, Programme Leader at Liverpool School of Art & Design, this session featured a screening of Catwalk 2 Creation, a two part documentary series which “highlights fast fashion’s unethical practices and staggering environmental impact, but at the same time offers hope for a better future.” Following the screening, Andrew Ibi, who is also a GFW Trustee, hosted a Q&A with Magri about the film, Do Epic Good’s ethos and business, and the future of sustainability.

Amanda Johnston, Curator and Educational Consultant at The Sustainable Angle held three workshops during GFW19 in the Considered Design Hub. Sharing innovative materials and The Sustainable Angle’s ethos for the future of the fashion industry, Amanda Johnston inspired GFW19 guests with her workshops.
