University of East London started the catwalk off with a presentation video with titled “I’ll show you what woman is,” followed with videos of women throughout history. The audience were captivated by this show, with the volume loud with cheers and applauding welcoming each graduate’s designs to the SmartFocus Catwalk. Rock music, accompanied by a fast pace and toe tapping, kept the electric atmosphere alive throughout the multiplicity of work showcased this evening.

There were many techniques displayed in the show, from bold prints to distressed patchwork. Drawings transferred to fabric accompanied with freehand stitching were used across the pieces, demonstrating a sharing of inspirations. Irisi Hysa repeated a feline face motif, with layered stitching. Colour was used vibrantly and liberally in all hues throughout the show, whilst extra long sleeves wer a hit amongst the graduate designers.

‘Freedom of Speech’ was a notion portrayed through the clothing by Nomvelo Dlamini. Others took inspiration from school uniform such as Lucy Sayers, who created child like gingham patterns and inspiration drawn from primary school tea towel designs drawn by children emerged in printed nude sleeves.
