Kicking off Day 3 of Graduate Fashion Week 2016 was The University of Central Lancashire, a fantastically pom-pom and embellishment filled show of skilled craftsmanship.

Womens-wear ruled the runway as a parade of lace dripped renaissance style figures took us back in time to wearable eveningwear with a twist, reminiscent of Galliano 2004. Draping worthy of the Ancient Romans was displayed on everything from reworked lace sportswear to satin negligée evening dresses. These designs screamed expert craftsmanship and considered pattern cutting, leaving the show with a DIY (yes there were a few oversized safety pins present!) undertone that was intrinsic to the clothes charm.

The collections were taken from one extreme to another bursting with uncensored colour, featuring flamenco-esque ruffles and amazing netting juxtaposing leather in a Vivienne Westwood worthy punk revival. Cruella De Vil’s signature black and white polka dot mixed with outlandish fur coats even made an appearance in several collections. Taking influence from all wakes of life the graduates of UCLAN left the audience reeling over aspirational new designs and innovative craftsmanship.
