Meet GFF Talent, Mia Nutton, a fashion graduate from De Montfort University. Mia’s final major project is focused around sustainability. “I found some waste carpet on the side of the street, I thought it was a huge waste as I see this a lot in Leicester. There’s not much you can do with waste carpet over than throw it on landfill.” says Mia.
Meet GFF Talent, Danish Rizal, a final year student at Management and Science University Malaysia. Danish’s final major project is focused around recent sporting events in Malaysia. “I became involved as the chanters' leader for the Malaysian Team and throughout my time there, I was intrigued by the largest stadium in my country's architectural designs” says Danish. Meet GFF Talent, Jinwon Park, a final year student at Nottingham Trent University. Jinwon’s final major project is focused around race, nationality and language. “I lived in a situation where I was a majority. Now I have become a minority. I have realised that there is a massive gap between living as the majority and the minority throughout my life” says Jinwon. Read all about it below!
Meet GFF Talent, Kirsten Torkoniak, a fashion graduate from University of Central Lancashire. Kirsten’s final major project is inspired by harbours in Rhodes. “I went to Rhodes in Greece at the beginning of final year and was inspired by the harbour, my collection now is based around sailboats using old sails as my dead stock fabric and the silhouettes also incorporating architectural structure to keep a contemporary design point of view.” says Kirsten.
Meet GFF Talent, Francesca Merrick, a fashion graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University. Francesca’s final major project is inspired by her Scottish heritage. “There is an importance of sustaining heritage and roots throughout our modern and ever changing society, by using my family's stories and our clan's tartans I am reviving their livelihood and joy.” says Francesca.
Meet GFF Talent, Renu Sigar, a final year student at Nottingham Trent University. Renu’s final major project is focused around reducing waste without sacrificing the art of the garments. “Even before my final inspiration came through, I knew that I wanted to significantly cut down on fabric scraps when I'm actually making my final garments.” says Renu. Max’s final major project is inspired by his upbringing in the English countryside. “My motivation was to determine an epicene balance between fragile elegance and masculine virility. ” says Max. Meet GFF Talent, Poppy Vrayer Griffiths, a fashion graduate from Northumbria University. Poppy’s final major project is inspired by military clothing and the empowerment of women. “The collection promotes empowerment and aims to bring awareness to women’s safety in society through the contrasting use of historical military menswear and parachute moulage,” says Poppy.

Meet GFF Talent, Katie-Rose Jackson, a fashion design graduate from the University if Central Lancashire. Her collection is three pandemic-inspired garments that take their aesthetic influence from three areas: bacteria, mould and viruses.
Meet GFF Talent, Shay Corney, a fashion design graduate from the University of Central Lancashire. Her final major project was inspired by EBoys culture on TikTok, and the androgynous style they showcase online.
Meet Misha Farooq, a fashion design graduate from the University of Central Lancashire. Her final major project is scientifically inspired by the relationship between the sun and the earth, using thermochromatic fabrics to mimic the energy transfer between the two. Read more below!
Meet Kingston University graduate Joy Julius, winner of the Black Excellence Award at GFW21. Joy’s final major project is inspired by the End SARS protests in Nigeria last year. By using deadstock textiles, Joy’s final major project combines a military-inspired silhouette with that of the floaty dress and hijab worn by activist Aisha Yesufu, one of the co-founders of the Bring Back Our Girls Movement, during the protests.
Meet India Gill, Terry Mansfield Fashion Publication Award Winner. India, who is a graduate from Heriot-Watt University, created a magazine called Powder Blue, which revolves around racial identity. As a mixed race woman, India explores the duality and juxtapositions of her heritage and how it fits into society. Read more about her work below.
Meet Ben Butling, Fashion Marketing Award Winner at GFW21. A graduate from University of The West of England, Ben’s final major project revolved around the European expansion of Arc’teryx, a Canadian-born, extreme adventure brand. Ben’s vision for the brand impressed the judges with its of-the-moment strategy. Read more about his work below!
Meet Layna Miyazaki, a graduate from Falmouth University who won the Fashion Communication Award at GFW21. Layna’s final major project is a multi-medium presentation on the warping of time, induced by the pandemic. Through photography, film and GIFs, Layna explores the impact of isolation.
Meet International Catwalk Award Winner, Filippo Matteo Paolo Barbagallo, a graduate from Istituto Marangoni Firenze. Filippo’s final major project is a collection called Entity, which looks to explore how we convey inner identity through external decisions, like clothing. Read on to learn more about his work!

Victoria’s final major project was inspired by fishing communities around the world, especially in a small community of female deep-sea divers in Korea, called Haenyeo. Meet Jordy Mawhood, winner of the 2021 New Fashion Media award, which was supported by TikTok. Jordy’s final major project began life as an app designed to keep sex workers safe from violence but has since grown to be a safety measure that anyone can use while dating.
