LOOKING FOR SOME ARTISTIC INSPIRATION? CHECK OUT THESE FIVE EXHIBITIONS...

At this time in the academic year, weeks can become blurs that look vaguely like the inside of a studio but mostly like development work and final-year-collection stress. Whatever your fashion discipline, sometimes taking a step back and reconnecting with the wider world of fashion, art, textiles and photography, can give the energetic inspirational encouragement that you need to keep working.

DESIGNERS DEMAND SOCIAL JUSTICE AT GFW17

DESIGNERS DEMAND SOCIAL JUSTICE AT GFW17

It was wonderful to see so many graduates using fashion to take on meaningful topics that are important to them. Some designers were more direct with their social justice statements. Lauren Sian Black from Liverpool John Moores University, sent one of the models down the catwalk carrying a bright yellow sign saying ‘Black Lives Matter’, with one of the tops featuring Eric Garner’s final words ‘I can’t breathe’. Her menswear collection showed a clear stance of support for the international activist movement which campaigns against violence and systemic racism towards black people.

Holly Fulton Bag

Holly Fulton Bag

In advance of Graduate Fashion Week 2017 and the Tu Scholarship Award, GFW are pleased to announce that Tu at Sainsbury’s have teamed up with fashion designer and ambassador Holly Fulton to produce a limited-edition tote shopper to support the charity. Launching in stores and online on 19th March, the special edition tote is adorned with a modern geometric design in navy and coral, taking inspiration from Holly’s love of British Folk Art.

“We wanted to select a design that reflected both our design identity and also encapsulated the spirit of dynamism, innovation and energy that the partnership between GFW and Sainsbury’s represents. Drawing on my love of British folk art, we wanted to create a strong geometric motif that would give the bag a powerful focus geared towards Summer and evocative of the barge paintings found in traditional canal boats across Britain. Hand drawn and using colours from our signature palette, the result is intended to be used every day to bring a sense of contemporary, individual fun to consumers.”

Holly Fulton, Designer and Graduate Fashion Week Ambassador

“Holly is a wonderful designer, who has shown at LFW for many years and is admired by many for her amazing prints and design work, so it is an absolute delight that she has agreed to design a bag for the charity. Holly is one of our ambassadors who works closely with our graduates and so we are thrilled that she has agreed to support us in this way."

Martyn Roberts, Managing Director of Graduate Fashion Week

The bag is available in 398 stores now!
