Plymouth College of Art alumni, vibrant designer and mother Amy Bray, spent her time backstage at Graduate Fashion Week 2018, not only styling her pieces but being filmed by the BBC. Amy’s collection, “SIT DOWN SHUT UP!” and her journey to Graduate Fashion Week was filmed by the BBC, as one of the first ever fashions segments to be included on the ‘Inside Out’ local feature.
The esteemed Gold Award Winner at GFW18, was Arts University Bournemouth graduate Rebecca Wilson, who received the prestigious prize this June. Inspired by the photographs of Victorian working class families, taken by August Sander and Horace Warner, Rebecca set out to create a collection that combined traditional and contemporary techniques.

Vivienne Westwood is the activist, punk and designer that has been revolting against the norm since the eighties. As one of our Lifetime Patrons, the iconic British creative was the perfect match to lend her name to an award we created in 2013, to recognise the growing need for sustainable design. In 2016 the award transformed from the Ethical Award to the Dame Vivienne Westwood Sustainable and Ethical Award.
As Graduate Fashion Week 2018 came to a close with the Gala Awards Show, many graduates from across the country were presented with awards, from menswear and textiles to social media and new media. One of the primary catwalk awards, is that of the Debenhams Menswear Award. Following in the footsteps of Daniel Rynne, who won the award last year, was Hannah Gibbins, of Brighton University.
We want our graduates showcasing and presenting with us at GFW18 to make the most of this fantastic opportunity but developing self confidence, and knowing how to network and present themselves in ways that will benefit them in the future.
GFW18 is fast approaching with now less than two weeks to go! Through campaigns such as #FeatureFriday, we've been able to see beyond the walls of a university studio to see the provocative, original and artistic designs that have been created and explored this year.
Here at Graduate Fashion Week, we not only have UK based institutions, but many from around the globe. Our International Fashion Award Show this year takes place on Wednesday 6th June in the Truman Brewery, Shoreditch.
The Boys by Girls Styling and Photography Competition gave two students, one stylist and one photographer, the opportunity to work with Cecilie Harris, Editor-in-Chief of Boys by Girls, on a shoot to be published on the female gaze focused magazine!
